Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH) and Thebe Holdings have been jointly awarded The Little Black Book’s Mover and Shaker Award for 2009/10, in recognition of their R7.5 billion acquisition of a 5% stake in mobile phone giant Vodacom.
Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH) and Thebe Holdings have been jointly awarded The Little Black Book’s Mover and Shaker Award for 2009/10, in recognition of their R7.5 billion acquisition of a 5% stake in mobile phone giant Vodacom.
“In a period in which the global and South African economies have been beset with difficulties from which RBH not been immune, we are extremely pleased and humbled to be honoured in this way,” says RBH CEO Niall Carroll. “We are honoured to share the Mover & Shaker title with a company of Thebe Holdings’ stature.”
This latest award follows recognition of RBH’s acquisition of a 13% interest in Implats as BusinessMap’s Deal of the Year.
The Little Black Book – A Guide to Black Professionals is published annually by Financial Mail. Besides the Mover and Shaker accolade, the publication recognises a Lifetime Achiever every year, as well as South Africa’s Top 20 business leaders.
The Little Black Book’s Shoks Mzolo and Shavana Mushwana report: “The fact that Vodacom chose Thebe and RBH should be seen as a tribute to both groups and their long track record in broad-based empowerment”.
Judging panel member Ajay Lalu of Bravura Economic Empowerment Consulting, comments: “These are two significant players with a known history in the world of investments. They wil be able to contribute meaningfully in terms of transformation and giving direction to the company”.
